A mild left-glute strain will sideline Ryan until at least Aug. 20. The diagnosis is encouraging, but the injury follows arm fatigue, back discomfort, a velocity dip, and 17 runs allowed in 15 1/3 second-half innings. Hold everywhere and wait for a pain-free bullpen update before planning his return.

POSITIVE UPDATE: MRI showed no structural damage. Ryan played catch Tuesday and threw a bullpen Wednesday — on track for his next start with no IL placement. The Twins paired the off-day with caution; in retrospect, Ryan likely won't even miss a turn.

NEW: Left Sunday's start vs. Toronto after 9 pitches with right elbow soreness. Ryan struck out Pinango, walked Okamoto, then waved for the trainer mid-AB and exited. He underwent an MRI immediately; the Twins are using Monday's off-day to evaluate, with Shelton saying they'll go off the imaging. Per MLB.com, an IL stint 'is almost guaranteed' — official move likely Tuesday. The Twins already lost Pablo López for the season this spring.

Quality start with zero walks — Ryan's command has been elite all season. The Twins rotation of Abel/Ryan is one of the best young duos in baseball. Lock in shallow leagues.
