MLBTradeRumors · Rotowire · MLB.comAltuve was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique strain after an awkward Saturday swing where he didn't run on a grounder to third. No firm timeline, but Jake Meyers suffered the same injury on April 9 and still isn't back. Realistic return is mid-to-late June. The Astros' IL now includes Altuve, Jeremy Peña, Jake Meyers, Hunter Brown, Josh Hader, and Carlos Correa — six high-leverage players.
Fantasy take: Stash Altuve on IL — he was hitting .342 in 35 games (his best stretch in years), and a Grade 2 oblique typically means 4-6 weeks for everyday hitters. The Astros' lineup is now thin enough that streaming against them this week is viable. Mauricio Dubón gets the everyday 2B reps in Altuve's place — a deep-league add only.
The Dodgers acquired Eric Lauer from Toronto for cash on Sunday. Lauer was 1-5 with a 6.69 ERA and 11 HRs allowed (AL-leading) in 8 appearances for the Blue Jays before being DFA'd a week ago. Manager Dave Roberts said he'll join LAD for the SD series this week as 'a length option in the bullpen' rather than a rotation slot. Brusdar Graterol was transferred to the 60-day IL to clear the 40-man.
Fantasy take: No fantasy add — Lauer's 6.69 ERA over 8 starts is the worst-case scenario for the move. The deeper signal is that LAD is in real rotation pain (Glasnow, Snell, Dreyer all on IL) and is willing to take swings on reclamation arms. River Ryan is the more likely SP add when LAD needs a starter; Lauer is a long-relief stop-gap only.
In the marquee SP duel of the year, Zack Wheeler bested Paul Skenes 6-0 at PNC Park. Wheeler: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K. Skenes: 7 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 8 K (took the loss). The Phillies completed a three-game sweep with the win and now lead the NL East by 4 games. Bryce Harper went 2-for-4 with an RBI; Trea Turner added 2 hits.
Fantasy take: Wheeler is now top-5 SP rest of season — claim immediately in the rare leagues where he's still available. Skenes' loss isn't a sell signal; the underlying stuff was elite (8 K, 7 IP) and the run damage was sequence variance. Buy if a frustrated manager treats this as 'his ceiling has been hit.' Bryce Harper / Trea Turner pair is fantasy gold in the second-half push.
The Mariners promoted Colt Emerson (#11 overall prospect per FanGraphs) on Sunday to fill the SS spot with Brendan Donovan on the IL (groin). Tomorrow, the Pirates are slated to call up Jhostynxon García (top-30 prospect OF) for his MLB debut after he hit .298 with 8 HR / 6 SB in 38 Triple-A games. Carson Williams (TB) was also recalled this weekend — three top prospects up in a 72-hour window.
Fantasy take: Colt Emerson is the priority claim (14% rostered) — he'll bat 9th initially but the SS upside is real (FanGraphs projects 18 HR / 25 SB / .350 OBP as his MLB-average outcome). García at 1% rostered is the deep-league add of the week; Tampa's Williams is similarly speculative. Stash all three in 14+ team leagues; pick the best fit in 12-team.
Holmes' fractured fibula will heal without surgery, per the team's latest assessment. The realistic return window is now late August. Mendoza: 'best-case scenario for what was a really tough break.' Sean Manaea has stepped into the rotation slot; Jonah Tong remains the next-up option at AAA.
Fantasy take: Stash Holmes on IL+ if you have the slot — August is far but the upside (top-15 SP when healthy) justifies the hold. In standard formats, this is still likely a drop — the recovery window is too long. Sean Manaea is the priority claim if you need rotation depth (12% rostered).

Waiver Wire Targets
FantasyPros · Rotoballer · Pitcher ListWho's Hot This Week
OF · PIT · ~1% owned
The Pirates' top prospect promotion fills the OF hole with Mangum returning, O'Hearn on IL, and the team needing offensive juice. García was hitting .298 with 8 HR and 6 SB at Triple-A Indianapolis. Multi-cat profile + locked playing time = priority deep-league add. Stash in 14+ team leagues, speculative in 12-team.
1B · COL · ~14% owned
Pitcher List's #2 priority hitter. Rumfield is producing at home and on the road, and Colorado hosts a favorable week (Rangers in town). 1B is thin in fantasy; he's a top-30 1B rest of season floor. Add in 14+ team leagues.
2B · CLE · ~33% owned
Pitcher List's most-added hitter on both Yahoo and ESPN. Martínez has homered in four of his last five games with 3 SB — the comparison being thrown around is early-career José Ramírez. Top-30 2B rest of season ceiling. Aggressive add in 12+ team leagues.
2B/SS · CLE · ~23% owned
Pitcher List's priority hitter. Rocchio cut his K rate dramatically (was 77:22 K:BB last year — now 17:16). 4 HRs and 8 SBs in 45 games. Top-25 2B/SS rest of season with the multi-position eligibility bonus.
SS · SEA · ~14% owned
Emerson made his MLB debut Sunday filling the SS spot with Brendan Donovan on the IL (groin). FanGraphs projects 18 HR / 25 SB / .350 OBP as his MLB-average outcome. The runway is locked through at least June. Top-25 SS rest of season ceiling if the call sticks.
🌱 Stash of the Week
Devin Williams has quietly seized the Mets' ninth-inning role — 6 saves with a sub-1.00 ERA over his last 7.2 IP. Closer Monkey notes he's 'scoreless in 8 consecutive games' with a 37.5% K-BB rate. He's still rostered in only 60% of leagues, which means 40% of fantasy managers can grab one of the most dominant closers in baseball for the cost of a waiver claim. The Mets' lineup is producing nightly, which keeps the save volume coming. Top-7 RP rest of season — claim in any league he's still floating.

Sedler covers Colt Emerson's MLB debut, Ryan O'Hearn's quad strain (no timetable), Ty Madden's 15-day IL, J.P. Crawford's HBP triceps contusion (DTD), and Seranthony Domínguez's struggles in the CWS closer role. Plus today's streamer of choice: JT Ginn (ATH) vs. the K-prone Angels.

Seager has been dealing with back tightness for over a week and is now seeing a specialist this week. The Rangers haven't placed him on the IL yet, but the visit suggests one is coming. He'd been hitting .280 with 7 HRs through 39 games. Worth scanning if you own Seager — IL stint within the week is the realistic outcome.

NEW: 10-day IL with Grade 2 left oblique strain. Aggravated on a Saturday swing (didn't run on a grounder). Same injury Jake Meyers suffered April 9 and still hasn't returned. Realistic return mid-to-late June. Mauricio Dubón gets the everyday 2B reps.

STATUS UPDATE: Visiting a back specialist this week after persistent back tightness. The Rangers haven't placed him on the IL yet, but the visit suggests one is coming. Seager was hitting .280 with 7 HRs. Back issues in 31-year-olds tend to drag on — expect an IL stint within days.
Hold; prep IL slotJosh Smith (likely 3B/SS coverage)
IL-10
NEW: 10-day IL retroactive to May 16 with left groin muscle strain. Donovan had been the Mariners' everyday 3B. Colt Emerson promoted from AAA in his place — a major prospect callup that creates fantasy ripples. Groin strains in everyday players typically run 3-4 weeks.
IL-15
Ty Madden — SP, Detroit Tigers
NEW: 15-day IL retroactive to May 16 with right forearm contusion. Forearm contusions in pitchers are typically short-stay (2-4 weeks), but the Tigers will be cautious. Will Vest activated in a corresponding move. Mize and Skubal (returning soon) cover the rotation hole.
Drop in standardN/A — no immediate replacement
IL-15
Jack Dreyer — RP, Los Angeles Dodgers
NEW: 15-day IL with left shoulder discomfort. Dreyer had been the Dodgers' primary lefty setup arm. Paul Gervase recalled to fill the bullpen slot. Shoulder issues in relievers are notoriously hard to predict — expect 4-8 weeks at minimum.

Roki Sasaki's Splitter Is Back — One Outing That Should Recalibrate His Fantasy Outlook
Roki Sasaki was an early fantasy darling in April (1.96 ERA / 28.2 IP through his first 5 starts) and a complete disaster in early May (5 ER in two of three starts, splitter command vanishing). Sunday's outing was the reset: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K against the Angels — his cleanest start since the season opener. The splitter was the difference: 18 thrown, 12 strikes, 6 swing-and-miss.
The mechanics breakdown explains the May slump and the May 17 recovery. Sasaki's release point had drifted 2 inches arm-side from April to mid-May, which had killed his splitter's depth — it was breaking 6 inches less than its April baseline. Sunday's outing showed the release point back where it was in April. Pitching coach Mark Prior credited a 'reset' bullpen day between starts: less throwing, more focus on arm angle.
Fantasy implications: Sasaki is now a top-25 SP rest of season, not the top-10 he looked like in April. The mechanics scare and the inconsistency of young arms (he's still just 25 in his first MLB full season) means treat him as a high-K, high-volatility play — start vs. weak offenses (CIN, COL, MIA), bench against top-10 (NYY, ATL, LAD). Add him in any league he was dropped during the May skid.

The VerdictTop-25 SP rest of season ceiling, top-40 floor. The splitter recovery is the validation; the mechanics fix is the why. Start vs. middle-tier and weaker offenses; bench against top-10 lineups. Buy back from any manager who dropped him during the early-May skid.

Bullpen Bulletin
Closer Monkey · Beat ReportersSunday's slate: 5 saves, 4 reliever wins, 1 blown save. Cade Smith (CLE, 14) and Devin Williams (NYM, 6 — now scoreless in 8 straight) are the cleanest locked arms. Kenley Jansen (DET) firmly locked. Senzatela took his first save in Colorado as that committee evolves. Tampa Bay's bullpen is in dysfunction. Athletics committee continues. Chapman (BOS) red flag despite 10 saves — velocity down.

|---|
| Devin Williams | NYM | 🟢 Locked | 6 saves, scoreless in 8 consecutive outings. 0.261 WHIP and 37.5% K-BB% over his last 7.2 IP. Locked in the Mets' 9th inning. Top-7 RP rest of season — claim anywhere he's still floating. |
| Cade Smith | CLE | 🟢 Locked | 14 saves, 11 consecutive conversions. 31 K vs. 5 BB across 21.2 IP. Most consistent closer in MLB. Top-7 RP rest of season. |
| Aroldis Chapman | BOS | 🟡 Watch | 10 saves still locked, but Closer Monkey flagged the velocity drop (below 98 mph for the season — down from his 100 mph career average). 46.9% hard-hit rate. Garrett Whitlock is the next-up option if Chapman slips. Hold but monitor. |
| Antonio Senzatela | COL | 🟡 Watch | Just secured his first traditional save Sunday in the ninth. Ranks 5th in WPA among qualified relievers and manager hasn't named a defined closer with Herget on IL. Deployment is fluid — high-leverage specialist as much as ninth-inning lock. Deep-league add for saves chasers. |
| Rays Committee | TB | | Bryan Baker and others failing to close decisively. Tampa Bay's bullpen hierarchy is unstable. Avoid in standard formats; Cole Sulser is the vulture pick if you must speculate. |

The Phillies completed a three-game sweep — Bryce Harper 2-for-4, Trea Turner 2 hits. The Phillies now lead the NL East by 4 games.
Wheeler is a top-5 SP rest of season — claim immediately. Skenes' loss isn't a sell signal (8 K, elite stuff); the run damage was sequence variance. Buy from any frustrated owner. The Phillies' lineup is fantasy gold for the second-half push.
Watch Wheeler shutout vs. Skenes — Phillies sweep →Roki Sasaki's bounce-back: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K vs. the Angels as the Dodgers cruised 10-1. The splitter was back to early-season form (18 thrown, 12 strikes, 6 SwStr). Kyle Tucker and Ohtani each had 3-hit nights for LA. Grayson Rodriguez (Angels, IL return) gave up 5 ER in 5 IP — rough debut.
Sasaki is a top-25 SP rest of season — add anywhere he was dropped. The splitter recovery is the validation. Tucker and Ohtani are stack candidates daily. Grayson Rodriguez is a wait-and-see; one start back from IL isn't enough sample.

Sheets is officially the everyday 1B for SD and is now a top-30 1B rest of season — 12% rostered means he's still claimable. Giolito's debut win is a positive signal but the 3 ER tempers enthusiasm. France is a 1B/3B add in deeper formats.
