Kyle Teel

Teel suffered a high ankle sprain applying a tag in the second inning of Monday's game against the Rangers. White Sox manager Will Venable described the injury as serious and said an IL stint is expected, with a 6–12 week absence cited as the likely timeline. This is Teel's third IL stint of 2026 — he has now played just 19 games all season due to hamstring, knee, and ankle problems. Drew Romo and Edgar Quero will handle catching duties going forward.

NEW SETBACK: Right LCL sprain suffered Saturday on a Triple-A rehab swing (cleat got stuck). 3-6 weeks of rest/rehab now expected. The original hamstring strain had him out since March. A 60-day IL transfer is likely. Realistic MLB return is late June at the earliest.

Teel is completing his AAA rehab assignment (hamstring) and is expected to be promoted within the week. He's hitting with a .375 OBP and a near-10% barrel rate at Triple-A — elite for a catcher. The White Sox have been platooning at the position; Teel will get the bulk of starts behind the plate once he's up. With Cal Raleigh now on the IL, two-catcher leagues need a stash, and at 11% rostered Teel is the priority pickup. Top-15 C rest of season ceiling once he debuts.
