Correa Out for the Year: Season-Ending Ankle Surgery Confirmed

MLB Trade Rumors · May 7

Carlos Correa will undergo season-ending surgery on a torn left ankle tendon — suffered Tuesday on a normal swing in the batting cage when his ankle 'just completely snapped.' The 6-to-8 month recovery has him on track for spring 2027. Houston now has four position players on the IL: Correa, Yainer Diaz (oblique), Jeremy Peña, and Jake Meyers — plus Hunter Brown, Hader, and Cristian Javier on the pitching side.

Fantasy take: Drop in all redraft formats — he's not coming back this season. The bigger fantasy move: Isaac Paredes is now Houston's everyday 3B and his ownership needs to spike today. He's slashing .221/.329/.368 through 79 PA — a slow start but a legitimate 30-HR bat with daily ABs locked in. Add in all 12+ team leagues. Houston's offense is now actively unrosterable outside Yordan Alvarez and Paredes.

Tyler Glasnow Exits After 1 IP With Lower Back Pain

Dodger Blue · May 6

Glasnow gestured to the trainer warming up for the 2nd inning Wednesday — his back 'gave out.' He told reporters it felt like a spasm. The Dodgers will MRI him in LA but Dave Roberts said an IL stint isn't expected. He had been excellent (2.72 ERA, 49 K in 39.2 IP) and recorded his 1,000th career K in the first inning before exiting.

Fantasy take: Hold on the bench until the MRI is back. Best case: he misses one start and is back at full velocity. Worst case: spasms in a 6'8" frame can spiral into a multi-week lat issue. If you have a deep bench, grab Brock Stewart (just activated) or Andrew Painter as a streaming hedge. Don't trade Glasnow at a discount until the MRI outcome is in.

Andy Pages Goes Off for 3 HR, 6 RBI as Dodgers Rout Astros 12-2

MLB.com · May 6

Pages hit three home runs — career high — and drove in six in the Dodgers' 12-2 blowout. Three-run shot off Lance McCullers Jr. in a five-run 3rd, two-run shot off Jason Alexander in the 5th, solo HR to lead off the 9th off catcher César Salazar in mop-up duty. He also robbed an extra-base hit in CF in the 7th. Ohtani had 2 hits and broke out of his slump.

Fantasy take: Pages is at 16 HR through 35 games — true 30+ HR pace, and the Dodgers' lineup gives him R+RBI volume on top. He's now firmly a top-12 OF; if you got him at OF3 prices, the trade window is open. Don't sleep on the post-3-HR cooling that often follows, but the underlying quality of contact says this is the player he is now, not a flash.

Skenes Spins 8-Inning Shutout in Pirates' 1-0 Win Over Diamondbacks

MLB.com · May 6

Skenes' longest scoreless outing of his career: 8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 7 K, 0 BB on 97 pitches. He struck out the side in the 8th (Gurriel, Arenado, Moreno all swinging). Brandon Lowe's 1st-inning HR off Soroka was all the Pirates needed. Don Kelly cited command and velocity dips at pitch 97 as the reason for the pull. Gregory Soto closed for save #2.

Fantasy take: Skenes is the rest-of-season SP1 in fantasy — period. The 5-2 record + 2.91 ERA + 4 starts of 8+ IP is true ace-level production. If you're in a league where someone's panic-trading because of his early-season struggles, this is the buy window. Soroka (4-2) is also a quality buy-low SP3.

Cubs' Matthew Boyd Out Indefinitely With Freak Meniscus Tear

MLB Trade Rumors · May 6

Boyd tore his left meniscus 'getting off the ground' while playing with his kids at home. Surgery in the coming days; manager Craig Counsell says 'more than the minimum' on the IL. The 35-year-old lefty was 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA and had just started rounding into form. His return timeline is unknown until after the procedure.

Fantasy take: Drop in all redraft formats — surgery + recovery + ramp will be 6+ weeks at minimum. The bigger fantasy story is the Cubs rotation: Imanaga is locked, but the back end (Rea, Cabrera, Taillon) is now stretched thin behind Steele's flexor strain. Hold Imanaga; everyone else is a streamer at best. Ben Brown is the most likely beneficiary of the rotation opening.

🌱 Stash of the Week

Robby SnellingSP, Miami Marlins (~15% owned)

Snelling makes his MLB debut Friday in Washington and the scouting case is compelling. His 40% K-rate and 56.9% groundball rate at Triple-A is a rare combination — those numbers almost never coexist. The fastball sits 95-96 mph with elite ride, and he tunnels it off a 60-grade, spike-grip 11-to-5 curveball. His 17 combined Triple-A starts across 2025-26 show a 1.46 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 12.1 K/9. The red flag is a 10.2% swinging-strike rate that would be below average against major-league hitters — his overall K-rate relies on weak contact rather than pure swing-and-miss, which is less reliable against better competition. Add now in 14+ team leagues and all dynasty formats. The Marlins need him, which means he'll get a legitimate run regardless of early bumps.

Scouting Report

FanGraphs
FanGraphs · by Vlad Sedler · May 7

Roto Riteup: May 7, 2026 — Closer Carousel + Boyd's Freak Injury

Sedler's piece is the cleanest read on a chaotic 24 hours of fantasy news. The headline thread is the Reds' closer carousel: Pagán's hamstring strain is officially Grade 2 (4-8 week recovery), and Tony Santillan and Graham Ashcraft are the two candidates to inherit save chances. Santillan has the edge — he posted 7 saves with the Reds last season and a healthier strikeout rate (27%) — but Ashcraft just earned his first career save and could grab a co-closer role.

On the other saves front, Carlos Estévez (KC) had a setback during his rehab outing — shoulder discomfort. The piece argues Lucas Erceg's hold on the Royals' 9th is now stronger than ever; Erceg should be a top-15 RP rest of season, since Estévez's return timeline just got pushed indefinitely.

On the streaming side, Sedler likes Matthew Liberatore vs. SD (Padres' offense is bottom-third vs. LHP) and prospect Robby Snelling making his MLB debut Friday vs. Washington. For hitters, Ian Happ extended his on-base streak to 27 games and is a top-15 OF rest of season. Bryan Woo's 6 IP / 0 ER / 9 K outing vs. Atlanta confirms he's back to ace form post-injury — buy-low if a leaguemate is still pricing him on the early-season ERA.

4-8 week timelinePagán — saves opening
Setback in rehabEstévez — Erceg locked
27-game OBP streakHapp — top-15 OF
The VerdictSpeculative-add Tony Santillan now in saves-needy formats — the Pagán role is gone for at least a month and Santillan has the experience edge. Lucas Erceg should be claimed in any league where he's still floating; Estévez's setback is the role-locker. Ian Happ is the buy-the-streak target; he's quietly producing top-15 OF numbers and the lineup spot is rock-solid.

Closer Monkey's Leverage LedgerMay 6

Wednesday's slate: Bednar 10th save (1.2 IP) for Colorado. The Reds' bullpen ladder shifted hard — Pagán hit the IL with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, opening saves to Santillan and Ashcraft. Kirby Yates was activated for the Angels but will be eased into leverage. Marlins' committee remains messy with Fairbanks still out.

CloserTeamStatusNote
Tony SantillanCIN🟡 WatchPagán's hamstring is a 4-8 week absence — Santillan inherits the Reds' 9th. He had 7 saves last year and a 27% K-rate this year. Graham Ashcraft is a co-closer threat (just earned his first career save), but Santillan is the priority add.
Lucas ErcegKC🟢 LockedEstévez's rehab setback (shoulder discomfort) means Erceg's hold on the Royals' 9th is now indefinite. He's a top-15 RP rest of season — claim in any league where he's still floating.
Caleb KilianSF🟡 WatchGot the first MLB save Monday; the Giants' 9th-inning hierarchy is still murky behind him with Erik Miller IL'd and Ryan Walker scuffling. Hold Kilian in deep leagues; Robert Garcia or Walker could re-enter the picture.
Calvin FaucherMIA🔴 CommitteeFairbanks is still out and the Marlins' 9th is a committee with Faucher, Anthony Bender, and Tyler Phillips. Faucher worked the 9th in a loss Sunday but the role rotation continues. Avoid in standard.
Ryan ZeferjahnLAA🟡 WatchKirby Yates was activated from the IL Tuesday; Closer Monkey notes he'll be eased into leverage. Until then, Zeferjahn stays the lead Angels save candidate. Hold in saves-needy formats.
