MLBTradeRumors · Rotowire · MLB.comReid Detmers carved through the Yankees lineup for 7 shutout-caliber innings (7 IP, 1 ER, 9 K, 4 H, 0 BB) as the Angels routed New York 7-1. Detmers generated 20 whiffs and held the Yankees hitless through 4 innings. Meanwhile, Oswald Peraza went 3-for-3 with a HR — the Angels' offense is quietly producing.
Fantasy take: Detmers is the real deal. The 9 K with zero walks is the profile you want — this isn't a lucky contact game. He's a must-start in all formats and trending toward SP2 value. If he's still on your waiver wire in 10-team leagues, that's malpractice.
Byron Buxton went 4-for-5 with 2 home runs, 2 RBI, and 4 runs scored in Minnesota's 6-0 shutout of Boston. Mick Abel was equally dominant on the mound (7 IP, 0 ER, 10 K, 4 H, 0 BB). The Twins are building momentum, and Buxton's health has been the catalyst — he hasn't missed a game yet this season.
Fantasy take: When Buxton is healthy, he's a top-20 OF. The problem is always durability, not talent. Ride the hot streak but don't overpay in trades — the injury risk is still baked in. Abel is the more exciting fantasy story: 10 K in 7 shutout innings makes him a must-add in all formats.
Christian Yelich (left groin strain, IL-10 retroactive to April 13) is the biggest fantasy name among a wave of new IL placements. Gabriel Moreno (left oblique, IL-10) and Nick Pivetta (right elbow inflammation, IL-15) are also shelved. Pivetta's MRI results are still pending — the Padres are calling it 'precautionary' but elbow inflammation for a pitcher is never nothing.
Fantasy take: Yelich was hitting .167 anyway — if you're in a shallow league, this might be a cut. In deeper formats, hold but set expectations low. Moreno is a hold — oblique strains are typically 2-4 weeks. Pivetta is the most concerning: elbow inflammation could mean weeks or months. Drop in 12-team leagues.
The Tigers signed Kevin McGonigle to an eight-year, $150 million contract extension, signaling Detroit's commitment to building around their young core. Framber Valdez also delivered a gem yesterday (7 IP, 1 ER) as the Tigers beat the Royals 2-1.
Fantasy take: The extension signals McGonigle will bat in the heart of Detroit's lineup for years. He's a dynasty must-hold. Valdez continues to be rock-solid — his contact-management approach works even with low strikeouts (1 K in 7 IP). He's a safe floor SP3 in all formats.

Waiver Wire Targets
FantasyPros · Rotoballer · Pitcher ListWho's Hot This Week
SS · Los Angeles Angels · ~8% owned
Perfect 3-for-3 night with a homer as the Angels blew out the Yankees. Peraza has found consistent playing time in LA and is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.
SP · Minnesota Twins · ~35% owned
Dominant shutout outing against Boston — 10 K, 0 BB, 4 H in 7 innings. That's back-to-back quality starts. He's pitching like a top-30 arm and should be rostered in all formats.
CF · Minnesota Twins · ~55% owned
Explosive 4-for-5, 2 HR night. The talent has never been in question — only the health. If he was dropped during the slow start, grab him now before the next multi-homer game prices you out.
SS · Washington Nationals · ~72% owned
Another multi-hit game with power. Abrams is hitting his stride — if he's somehow still available in your league, he shouldn't be. The speed/power combo at SS makes him a top-10 option at the position.
🌱 Stash of the Week
Recalled by Houston per MLBTR today. The Astros desperately need pitching depth with their rough 2-12 start and mounting injuries. Arrighetti has electric stuff — his fastball sits 96+ and the sweeper generates whiffs. He'll get a long leash given Houston's situation. The ceiling is top-40 SP in a pitcher-friendly park with a team that should eventually regress toward its talent level.
Worth Reading
01
Deep dive into the Sosa trade, Houston's historic losing streak, and the growing injury crisis in Baltimore and Chicago. Good context for understanding which teams are creating fantasy opportunities.
02
Two teams with rotation needs circling Giolito. If he lands with the Cubs or Padres, he'd slot into favorable situations. Worth monitoring for a speculative stash in deeper leagues.
03
Padres still awaiting MRI results on Pivetta's elbow. The uncertainty is the concern — if results were clean, they'd have said so by now. Monitor closely before making IL stash decisions.

Statcast Buy-Low Targets: xwOBA vs Actual wOBA
The Statcast expected stats leaderboard continues to flag hitters whose underlying contact quality far exceeds their surface numbers. These are the players whose batted-ball data says a turnaround is coming — the question is when, not if.
Ke'Bryan Hayes leads the buy-low list with a staggering .194 gap between his .111 wOBA and .305 xwOBA. He's hitting .073 but Statcast says he should be hitting .244. Nick Castellanos (.242 wOBA vs .366 xwOBA) is another premium name available at a steep discount — his exit velocities and barrel rates haven't declined, he's just been unlucky.
Michael Harris II is the most intriguing name further down the list. His .289 wOBA vs .379 xwOBA represents a .090 gap on a 23-year-old with 30/20 upside. If you can acquire him cheaply in dynasty formats, this is the window.
-.194Hayes xwOBA gap
-.124Castellanos gap
-.090Harris II gap
The VerdictHayes and Castellanos are the top buy-low targets this week. Hayes requires patience but the Statcast profile is elite. Castellanos is a safer bet with a track record of bouncing back. Harris II is the dynasty play — acquire now while the price is suppressed.

X · YouTube · Closer MonkeyAstros to recall Spencer Arrighetti. Houston's pitching depth is being stretched to the limit with their 2-12 start and multiple IL stints. Arrighetti gets another shot at sticking in the rotation.
Arrighetti has high-upside stuff and lands in a situation where he'll get a long leash. He's this week's stash — grab him before the first 8-K start puts him on everyone's radar.
See the post on X →Byron Buxton's 2-HR explosion against the Red Sox — including a 430-foot moonshot to dead center at Target Field. Combined with Mick Abel's 10-K shutout, this was the most dominant single-game performance combo in the Twins' young season.
The Buxton highlights remind you why he was drafted where he was. When healthy, there are maybe 5 players in baseball with this combination of power and speed. Abel's outing is the one with more fantasy relevance long-term.
